Excellent Pastoral Care at St Paul's

At St Paul’s Catholic Primary School, excellent pastoral care is central to our mission and rooted firmly in our Catholic values. We are committed to nurturing the whole child and supporting families in a compassionate, non‑judgemental and inclusive manner, ensuring every child feels safe, valued and supported to thrive.

We are proud to have a dedicated Pathfinder Pastoral Manager, Mrs King, who works closely with pupils and families to provide personalised, early and ongoing support. This includes emotional wellbeing, behaviour support, attendance, and practical family support such as guidance around finance, housing and wider family circumstances. Mrs King builds strong, trusting relationships with families, offering help that is respectful, understanding and focused on positive outcomes for children.

St Paul’s works in close partnership with the Birmingham SEMH Pathfinder team, enabling us to offer additional and, where needed, more intensive levels of support. Through this partnership, children and families can access targeted interventions, mentoring and specialist guidance to support emotional regulation, resilience and mental health.

We also actively support parents and carers through evidence‑based approaches such as Psychologically‑Informed Parenting (PiP) and Non‑Violent Resistance (NVR) courses. These approaches help families better understand behaviour, strengthen relationships and develop calm, consistent responses to challenges. Our approach is entirely non‑judgemental and centred on partnership with parents, recognising that supporting families ultimately benefits children’s wellbeing, engagement and success in school.

With a strong safeguarding culture, clear expectations and a caring ethos, we work closely with families and external agencies to remove barriers to learning and wellbeing. At St Paul’s, pastoral care is about listening, understanding and walking alongside children and families so that every child can flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually, living out the Gospel values each day.
