Music

A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.

Music is a unique way of communicating. It is a vehicle of personal expression, and it can play an important part in personal and cognitive development. Our teaching aims to reflect the culture and society that we live in and so the teaching and learning of music enables children to better understand the world they live in.

Our Gospel Values are at the heart of our musical journey. As pupils progress, they should create a critical engagement with music and be able to listen and appreciate music with the ability to review. Where appropriate, children have exposure to the practical elements of music. Musical theory and vocabulary are at the forefront of what the children learn. Children develop descriptive language skills in music lessons when learning about how music can represent different feelings, emotions and narratives. Throughout the music curriculum pupils are developing a map of musical knowledge, skills and understanding that they can add too from the early years to when they leave in year 6. Our objective is to develop a curiosity for the subject which will inspire them throughout their lives.
