Catholic Social Teaching: Dignity of the Human Person
RE
Creation
This half term in RE, children will be learning about the Creation story. Children will learn how to retell this story using pictures and words. They will also recognise gifts and talents they have which are God given.
People Who Help Us
Children will know some things about the work of the priest and will understand that the church building is a special place. They will also be able to
identify some artefacts in the church.
Reception will recall a few features from the celebration of Mass and they will be able to identify parts of stories of Jesus that show him helping other people. The children will understand that people have opportunities to follow Jesus today by the way they live.
Advent
Children will learn how many weeks there are in Advent. We will explore the Advent wreath and the symbolism of each candle. Children will be learning how the church prepares for the birth of Jesus.
Phonics
Children will be learning how to segment and blend phase three phonemes (sounds).
Reading
As the Reception year progresses and children become more and more secure with their phonics, they will begin to read books that match their phonic ability. Children will read to adult in school every week. Their reading books will be changed weekly.
Literacy
This half term, we will be exploring stories: 'Can't you sleep, Little Bear?', 'The Naughty Bus' and 'Stickman'. Children will take part in role-play to help retell these stories. They will use puppets and create masks to help them to retell the story. Children will be using their phonic knowledge to write simple CVC words.
Children will be completing lots of artwork based on these stories.
Maths
This half term, we are focusing on number bonds to 5. We will be learning how to count forwards and backwards up to 5. Children will be comparing different amounts and quantities up to 5.
Understanding the World
This half term, our unit is called 'Transport'. Children will be learning about different types of transport - present and past. Children will be learning about space and rockets as part of this topic.
Music
In Music, we will be listening to and joining in with a range of nursery rhymes and even learning some new ones!
