Reception

Welcome to Receptions Class page.
Our Teacher is Miss Foster and our teaching assistants are Mrs O’Neill, Miss O’Neill and Mrs Skidmore (in the afternoon).


Class information 

Monday Afternoon – PE.
Please ensure that the children have the correct PE kits in school.

Wednesday Morning- Forest school.
The children can come in forest school clothes that can get dirty and muddy. Children should have wellies in school.

Friday Morning- Reading books will be changed and homework will be handed out.
Please read with your child every day and write in their reading diary. Ensure you child brings in their reading book each day so that staff can read with them.

 

In Reception we follow the Early Year’s Foundation stage. We have prime areas which are:
Personal, social and emotional development:

  • Making relationships
  • Managing feelings and behaviour
  • Self-confidence and self-awareness.

Physical development:

  • Moving and handling
  • Health and self-care.

Communication and language:

  • Listening and attention
  • Understanding
  • Speaking

We also have specific areas which are: Literacy:

  • Writing

Mathematics:

  • Numbers
  • Space, shape and measure

Understanding the world:

  • Technology

Expressive arts and design:

  • Exploring and using media and materials
  • Being imaginative

 

For phonics we follow the Letters and sounds programme. During Autumn 2 the children are learning the sounds in phase 3.
The children love the jolly phonics songs which you can find on youtube.

RE: We follow Learning and growing as people of God to teach RE in our school.

This term we are learning about the following units: People who care about us- We will think about who cares for us and how they show they care. Then they will learn about weddings and

Advent- Children will learn about this special time of year before Christmas. They will consider how to prepare themselves for the coming of Jesus and the importance of the Advent wreath.

 

Our Class Topic for Autumn 2 is Dinosaurs. We are going to read lots of stories about dinosaurs but will focus on Harry and his bucketful of Dinosaurs and How to grow a dinosaur.
